He won the 1964 Trampoline World Championships in London, and the same year he won three All-American titles. His early physical and mental training was probably a factor in his wonderful recovery from a grave injury suffered in a motorcycle accident in 1968. He later traveled around the world, studying principles of various yogas and martial arts and returned home to find his calling as an author and motivational performer. In 1980 he wrote his first and one of the most successful book, Way of the Peaceful Warrior, which was adapted into a feature film, Peaceful Warrior (2006) directed by Victor Salva.
The Way of the Peaceful Warrior is a novel, based on a true story, but with fictional elements as well. The story tells of a chance meeting with an old, mysterious man, Socrates who becomes a spiritual teacher to the young gymnast, Dan Millman. Guided by this spiritual warrior-teacher, and drawn to a beautiful and vivacious girl called Joy, the boy moves toward a final confrontation that will deliver or destroy him.
Millman about his books: “Each of my books provides a new and different facet of a peaceful warrior's approach to living wisely and well. In a sense, each book is another piece of the puzzle of personal and spiritual growth. I put my heart and soul into each one. Look over the descriptions below, and trust your instincts.”
His works present practical, realistic principles, and practices to how to live with a peaceful heart and a warrior spirit. The nature of Millman's work also encompasses among other things the life-education, the stress release, higher awareness, how to live a more purposeful life in the changing world.
In his new book, The Four Purposes of Life, the author distills decades of exploration and experience into a concise map of what we’re here to accomplish on our daily life. He prepares for a quantum leap in self-knowledge, and wisdom to expand your awareness, and improve the quality of your life.
